The Quilting Bonanza Continues!

I should be getting ready to move, but I just have to finish these quilts!

This is my friend's chenille quilt that I'm hoping to finish today or tomorrow.  I bought a kit from Fons and Porter and I'm not too wild about their fabric selection.  Oh well.  My friend lives in a true log home, so I'm hoping it fits right in with her decor.

I have to admit, working with chenille is fun.  It's like cutting carpet, but it's fun...and very forgiving.

This is a close up of the different directions of the chenille.

The back of this quilt will be flannel.  I won't need any batting.  Talk about easy, this thing can be done in one day...if I'd get off the computer and work on it.

This block is a design I copied from one of my mom's quilts.  My father's grandmother made the original quilt in royal blue and white.  It's beautiful.  Unfortunately, it's also the quilt all of us kids have been haggling over.  We all hope to inherit it.  The last time I was home I laid the quilt out and copied the design on graph paper.  Since I don't live near my family I'm sure someone will cabbage on to the quilt before I can sneak away with it.  I decided it's just easier to make my own version.

Another Quilt Down...

 

I've finished yet another quilt! It's truly amazing. I'm sure those who know me are now suffering from shock and awe. I apologize, but I'm on a roll.

I made the top to this quilt for my husband a few years ago. RicDaddy loved it; I hated it. The green looked garish to me (still does), and the whole thing seemed so...chaotic (still does).  So, I folded it up and stashed it away. I ran across it a few days before his 40th birthday (April 10th). I thought, "Well, I want to get all these projects done. What better motivation than RicDaddy's 40th birthday?" And thus a quilt was finished.

I gave it to him on the night of his surprise birthday party (along with his Titleist golf bag and Pro V-1 balls...yes, RicDaddy likes golf. He's good at it too!) He didn't see it coming. I loved the look on his face. He's so darned cute!!

I used a polyester batting, something I've never done before. I'm a cotton snob. But he has said that he'd like a 'fluffy' quilt. Hmmm, in my book those are called comforters. Oh well, I'll try anything once. And since I didn't have a true love for this quilt, I considered it an "acceptable loss" if it didn't turn out so hot.

Thankfully, I'm on to other projects.

TMI Saga and Online Shopping

Well...so my TMI saga continues. One surgery wasn't enough for me so Thursday morning, at 3:30 a.m., I decided to hemorrhage and have emergency surgery. Call me bored...

Now I am recovering, once again. My husband has me trapped in my bedroom with quilt magazines and my laptop. Like I've been saying, "It could be worse." 

The ladies in my church have gone above and beyond in their ministry to me. We are having lunches and dinners delivered. I am humbled by the Lord's goodness through them.

I have decided to make quilts for two women here in Washington who have been such a blessing to me. I'm going to dive into the world of chenille. This should be fun. I've picked an easy quilt since my energy level isn't up to snuff, and probably won't be for a while.

Here is the quilt I'm going to make: (I'm going to do them in different colors.)

Snuggly Chenille Quilt

I normally like to design original quilts, but due to time constraints, and the fact that I loooove this quilt, I'm going to defer to a kit for one of them and modify if for the other quilt.  The second quilt will have a pale yellow chenille with Moda's Three Sister's Sanctuary fabrics.

RicDaddy's Quilt is finally finished!

I finally finished my husband's quilt! I am thrilled to have this project completed.

There are two blocks out of place. Can you find them? My grandmother made a quilt with a couple of mistakes in it. When I was a little girl I loved to lay it out and try and find them. I'd like to say I planned the mishaps in this quilt, but alas, I didn't.

Are we really ever too old to have a favorite blanket? This now resides in my husband's room on the air craft carrier. A little bit of home to soften the edges of the ship.

Quilt Show and Tell 2007

Earlier I posted my  LIST OF THINGS TO ACCOMPLISH IN 2007 . On that list are a few quilts that I need to complete.  Here they are.

Here is one that I need to finish in 2007 as per my goal. It will be a patriotic quilt for my husband, a Navy pilot. I need 27 of these blocks.

This one has been in the works for about four or five years now. I have set it's completion as a goal for 2007. And I only need about 35 more of these little babies!

This one has been in the works for about a year. Yep, you guessed it, I want to have it done by 2007 (and I might actually manage it if I'd stop blogging!) All these blocks are done, I just have to put them all together.

And this one has been in my "to do" box for over two years. (I'm getting depressed.)

And lastly, this quilt will be done by the end of 2007. It only needs a binding so this might be the only one that actually gets done.

I'd really love to get these projects out of the way. I have several that I want to start!!
