I'm getting ready to read HEAVEN AT HOME by Ginger Plowman. I have to admit, this book makes me nervous. It is hard for me to read books written by women who seem to have it all together. Instead of gleaning precious insight, I, too often, end up feeling guilty for all the ways I fall short. I am praying this will not be the case with Heaven.
I'm not a mother/wife who could be described as warm and fuzzy in the typical Christian "How-To-Be-a-Good-Nurturing-Mother" sense. I'm sort of rough around the edges. I have felt that much of my mothering has been done in "Survival Mode". But I am desiring to learn more about how to nurture budding young men. When I asked my mom just what my role is now that my boys no longer cling to my 'apron strings' she said, "Keep food on the table." I thought, "Surely there is more to it than that!"
But there isn't. Well, there is...
...but keeping food on the table is no easy task. With three highly athletic sons and one supercharged husband, meals become a ministry of mammoth proportions...literally. So in addition to searching for new recipes, I am searching for a servant's heart. And in my quest I am trying, once again, to read books by women who are gifted in the area of encouragement.
I have read DON'T MAKE ME COUNT TO THREE by Plowman, and thought it was wonderful. It's sort of a primer or Cliff Notes, if you will, of SHEPHERDING A CHILD'S HEART by Tedd Tripp.
I'm still waiting for the book to arrive in the mail. I'd love any reviews from others who have read it.
